“Every day that goes by without a special election being called is a day people across our area will be without constituent services they expect and deserve,” the statement reads. In April, while assessing ice damage in northern Michigan, Whitmer told WCMU that she was reviewing election dates. "At some point there will be one, but I don't have an announcement to make yet," she told WCMU. “I haven't made a determination yet.

Donald Carlyon, who led Delta College as its president for nearly three decades and helped elevate it to national prominence, has died at age 100. Carlyon, who died Tuesday, May 27, was a Nebraska native who arrived in Michigan with his wife, Betty, and helped shape what was then just a concept into one of America’s leading community colleges. He first joined Delta in 1960 as its business manager.

Accused of paying for and directing the sexual abuse of children overseas, Nathaniel Coady is scheduled for a preliminary exam on child exploitation charges in federal court. Coady, 54, of Midland, who was deemed by a judge to be a danger to minors across the globe, remains held without bond following his Nov. 20 arrest by Homeland Security. His preliminary examination was reset from May 8 to June 10 before Magistrate Judge Patricia T. Morris.
