Looking for ways to help pay for maintenance and development of its many parks and recreation programs, the city of Redding will give residents the option to donate through their monthly utility bills.

A wildfire near the city of Mount Shasta prompted evacuation warnings Monday night before crews were able to stop forward progress. The Spring Fire burned 12 acres as of Tuesday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The wildfire was reported around 9 p.m. near Spring Hill Drive just north of Mount Shasta. The fire burned in a mix of timber and brush, Cal Fire said. At one point, the fire threatened 174 structures.
