On this date in Wildcat history, Nov. 15, 1957: The Oak Ridge Wildcats traveled to Chattanooga to take on the Purple Pounders of Chattanooga Central in the final scheduled game of the 1957 season. This was not a playoff game and it ended up not being the final game of that season. More on that later. In 1957, the TSSAA didn’t have playoffs and, in fact, they wouldn’t begin until the 1969 season.

On this date in Wildcat Football History, Nov. 8, 1946. The Wildcats took on the Lenoir City Panthers in the eighth game of the Oak Ridge team's third full season of existence. Oak Ridge as a city was in transition with many of the Manhattan Project families moving back to where they came from and the resulting drop in the Oak Ridge High School population. This was evident on the field, for after two solid war years in 1944 and 1945, when Oak Ridge went 7-1 and 7-3, things weren’t as rosy in 1946.

Writer Thomas Wolfe's famous quote, “You can’t go home again” roughly applies to Friday night's Oak Ridge football game with the Lenoir City Panthers, but one man in attendance on Friday hopes to blow that theory out of the water. There isn’t bad blood between these two teams that have a relatively short series between them. There are no fights or playoff history between the Wildcats and the Panthers. The Wildcats lead this series 8-3-1 since the first meeting in 1944.

On this date in Wildcat football history, we go back to Oct. 11, 1991. This game would give high school fans a sneak preview of the greatest high school game I personally have ever witnessed. It was the state semi-finals game between Oak Ridge and the Central Bobcats that would take place a few weeks later. Like that semi-final game, this regular season game was played at Dan Y. Boring Field at Central High School in Knoxville.
