The charity said it served 1,056 people in the county over the past year, and that its weekly free meal, Friday Food and Fellowship, served 5,462 meals in that time.

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A well-known animal advocacy group is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in a Knoxville animal cruelty case. Humane World for Animals, previously known as the Humane Society of the United States, is offering up to $5,000 as a reward after a dog was found dead with a bag over its head in a parking lot at NHC Healthcare early Monday morning. Police said another dog was also found, which was similar to the first dog, near the deceased animal.

    NEWPORT, Tennessee — A Newport radio station will play the stories of Cocke County Vietnam veterans on its airwaves on April 29, one day before the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, one of the events that helped to effectively end the conflict. WLIK-FM 97.9 will air the program from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will also stream it on wlik.net, said Vietnam veteran Rob Watkins, who also runs the group Veterans in Focus.

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Dr. Tricia Bruce is an expert in Catholicism and has written and edited several books, as well as scholarly papers, on the religion. Bruce is a sociologist who's had a seat at the table with Pope Francis, after he invited her to the Synod on Synodality in Italy last October. She offered a sociological perspective at the gathering, where people who are connected to the Catholic Church talked about its future. "He sees people, he listens to people," Bruce said of Pope Francis.
