Dozens of people, including a number of children, are among the latest group of people to be deported from Ireland, gardai have confirmed. Members of the Garda National Immigration Bureau say they carried out an operation removing individuals from the State on Wednesday evening. "The operation resulted in the removal of 35 individuals - 21 males, nine females and five children," said a spokesperson who added that the children removed are all part of family groups.

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has confirmed it has stopped admissions to one of two nursing homes which were featured in an RTÉ Investigates documentary, broadcast on Wednesday night. The investigation, involving undercover researchers and secret filming, focused on two nursing homes – The Residence Portlaoise and Beneavin Manor in Glasnevin in north Dublin. It uncovered multiple examples of care failings and neglect of vulnerable older residents.

Plans are being drawn up to install safety cameras at level crossings around Ireland in response to the continuing misuse of crossings by road users. In figures released this Thursday, Iarnród Éireann says there have been thirty recorded incidents of misuse of level crossings so far this year, with eleven resulting in crossing damage or injury to the crossing user.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a cyclist was killed in a road traffic collision in East Cork. In an update, they say the fatal incident occurred on the N25 at Carrigtwohill at around 5pm this Wednesday. "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following reports of the collision, involving a van and a pedal cyclist, which occurred eastbound on the N25," said a spokesperson.

In the immediate aftermath of Sunday's shooting incident at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow Town, there were calls for Ireland’s bail laws to be urgently reviewed and changed. The calls came less than a week after the Government announced it's to appoint a senior counsel to examine the conditions under which a repeat offender can be granted bail while awaiting trial.
