The Aurora Tech Award, a global recognition initiated by inDrive, a mobility platform, has unveiled its 2025 list of top female founders. The award, which honours innovative women entrepreneurs, showcases groundbreaking ventures that are shaping industries across the globe. In a statement on Wednesday, the organisers said Nigeria took the lead, “with 21 outstanding female entrepreneurs selected from a pool of 2,018 applications spanning 116 countries”.

Chijioke Ihunwo, chairman of Obio-Akpor LGA of Rivers state, has appointed 130 special assistants. Ihunwo, who announced the appointments in a post on X on Wednesday, said the new hires “must serve diligently”. Some of the appointees are Helen Nyekwere, Josephine Wogu, Daisy Worgu, Wagwu Hilda, Ogbonna Stella, Goodness Ogbonna, and Grace Amadi. Ihunwo added that the appointments take immediate effect.

President Bola Tinubu has directed an investigation into the terrorist attack on a military base at Sabon Gari in Damboa LGA of Borno state. On January 4, fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked the base. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said six soldiers were killed during the attack. In a statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, the president condoled with families of the fallen soldiers.

At least 19 people have been killed after gunmen launched an attack on Chad’s presidential complex on Wednesday. Gunfire was headed near the presidential building with tanks seen on the street. An armed commando unit reportedly shot inside the building around 7:45pm. Abderaman Koulamallah, government spokesman and foreign minister, said the dead include 18 of the assailants and one security agent.

Robert Ewa, commissioner for tourism, arts and culture in Cross River, is dead. Nsa Gill, chief press secretary to Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River, confirmed the death to TheCable on Thursday. Gill said the deceased passed away at a medical facility in Calabar. The spokesperson said the late commissioner attended the state’s executive council meeting on Wednesday. He added that Ewa made contributions during the meeting but subsequently excused himself.
