A 3-year-old was injured in a shooting on North 26th Street near Laurel Street on Tuesday, according to Baton Rouge police. The child was taken to a hospital in critical condition after the incident, which happened at around 6:40 p.m., according to a police spokesperson. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call BRPD's Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Police are investigating two fatal shooting that happened within hours of each other Tuesday night, according to a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesperson. The first shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Off of La Margie Avenue near North Cristy Drive. The second shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 10,000 block of Avenue E. Both incidents are under investigation, said Lt. L’Jean McKneely.

A man has been arrested in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a Southern University student on Sunday, March 2, the university announced Friday. Semaj Joiner was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Forth Worth, Texas on Thursday, nearly two weeks after the shooting. Joiner has been charged with carrying a firearm on school property, attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentalities.
