COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Commerce City put four new "high traffic hazard zones" into effect Monday, the police department told Denver7. That means if a driver commits a traffic violation in those areas of Commerce City, the fine doubles. Those high traffic hazard zones include:Highway 2 between 72nd and 79thTower Road between 81st and 87thHighway 2 between 88th and 95thTower Road between 96th and 103rdThe Commerce City Police Department decided on those areas based on statistics.

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — STEM School Highlands Ranch won $12,000 as the state champions in Samsung's "Solve for Tomorrow" STEM competition. Students in grades sixth through 12th were asked to create innovative solutions to critical issues in their communities. The team from STEM School Highlands Ranch is made up of students Siddhi Singh, Dhriti Sinra, Robyn Ballheim and Bri Scoville, led by their teacher, Mr. Chacon. They call themselves the Rubber Duckies.

DENVER — State lawmakers are working to protect Colorado children on the Internet with two new bills targeting social media. One of the bills is called "Healthier Social Media Use by Youth." HB24-1136 would require the Colorado Department of Education to "create and maintain a resource bank of evidence-based, research-based, and promising program materials and curricula pertaining to the mental health impacts of social media use by children and teens," the bill description said.
