ST. LOUIS (KMOX)--More details are on the way about a four-county, state-funded regional police training center. A 50-million dollar state grant would cover the cost of the facility, likely to be built in St. Louis County, which is partnering with St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson County. St. Louis County Executive Sam Page says the project has been in the works for years.

St. Clair County Animal Services in Belleville is requesting assistance from other organizations-- Belleville Humane Society, Gateway Pet Guardians and others--as it puts together an emergency evacuation plan to relocate 42 animals. The creek behind the facility is rising. In July 2022, the facility flooded, leaving dogs standing in high water or swimming for their lives. They hope to get all the animals out of the shelter before that happens.

Trees can play a vital role in reducing flooding. In flood prone areas of University City, residents are being offered free trees to encourage them to plant trees on their property. "[Trees] put their roots down into the soil, so they're holding soil in place, absorbing that rainwater as it comes down," explains Meridith Perkins, executive director of Forest ReLeaf.

ST LOUIS (KMOX) -- Locally this week, investigators have looked into school threats at Ritenour, Affton, Farmington, and other districts. Lt. Eric Brown with the Missouri Highway Patrol says if you see a threat online, do not repost it. "By not reposting that you can help control that threat and be sure it's properly investigated without causing further harm or fear that may not be necessary," Brown tells KMOX.
