Babylon officials have unveiled the town’s renovated and upgraded emergency communications hub, which they said has been more than a decade in the making. The Babylon Central Fire and Rescue Alarm Corp. dispatch facility is located in the basement of Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst and serves as the town’s 911 call center. Residents reporting an emergency can call 911, or 631-226-1212 to reach a dispatcher.

When Amityville Trustee Michael O’Neill is sworn in Monday night, he will become the 30th mayor in the history of the village, after winning election last month. Among his early priorities are keeping the budget as tight as possible and addressing traffic safety on Route 110. But, he said, "There are so many positive things going on in the village right now that I just need to continue guiding it."O’Neill replaces Dennis Siry, who was term-limited out after eight years.

Babylon Village is extending its hours for street parking meters, leading some business owners to worry that the move will drive patrons away. The village announced on its Facebook page Monday that starting this coming Monday, street meters will remain in effect until 10 p.m. The coin-operated meters, which have a two-hour limit and cost 25 cents an hour, currently are free after 6 p.m.Parking meter fines start at $35, officials said.

If you don’t know anything about Tom Gargiulo, you need only look to the gym at the Babylon Town Hall Annex to learn his calling. The facility will now bear the name of the coach and longtime educator, and the street leading to the annex's entrance will now be "Coach Tom Gargiulo Way." Town officials held a ceremony at the gym — now "The 'Coach Tom Gargiulo' Health and Wellness Center" — on March 14 to celebrate the Babylon Village resident.

A lawsuit filed by a developer against the Town of Babylon’s zoning board for rejecting a proposed warehouse in East Farmingdale has been tossed by a state Supreme Court judge. The Article 78 suit — a legal action used to challenge state and local government decisions — was filed against the town last fall by San Francisco-based Prologis Inc.
