    SYRACUSE — A special Syracuse council meeting was held Wednesday morning to resolve two issues left unresolved from last week’s regular council meeting. Things got a little heated at times over both issues — whether the council should declare a paved alley a town road and whether they should change the make-up of the town council. In the end, they did both. The town has been maintaining a paved road/alley known as Medusa Court for over 60-70 years but discovered it was not actually a town road.

    NAPPANEE — Nappanee Board of Public Works and Safety members made quick work of the agenda Monday afternoon and awarded several contracts for projects. The board awarded a contract for new stormwater piping along the wooded wetlands by McCormick Creek Golf Course and the Scout cabin to Kent Excavating. At the last board meeting, they received three quotes and Kent Excavating was the low bid with a bid of $8,242.50.

    SYRACUSE — The weather on Saturday was perfect for the 11th annual Chautauqua-Wawasee Fine Arts Festival at Oakwood Resort — a little too cool for swimming, but pleasant for walking the grounds and visiting the variety of vendors involved in the festival. Many of the vendors reported having a very good day.
