“Patience is a virtue,” Mayor Jack Lind told Amoco station managers after they finally secured Village Board approval on March 4 for a license needed for video gaming. Managers Almas Khan and Jay Ahmed had repeatedly appeared before the board seeking a CV liquor license, which allows alcohol to be served at their gas station at 10559 S. Harlem Ave. The station, which switched from a Thorntons to an Amoco last year, needed the license as a state requirement for video gaming.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested early March 2 after allegedly firing a gun to scare off a person threatening her in Chicago’s Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said. Cindy Leon, of the 1100 block of North Avers Avenue, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm following the incident in the 6200 block of South Artesian Avenue. Police responded to a report of shots fired at 5:56 a.m. and found Leon standing outside a red car.

Darnell Stewart, 18, of the 7500 block of South Green Street in Chicago, was arrested following a traffic stop at 4:27 p.m. on Feb. 27 in the 6100 block of South Western Avenue, according to police. Stewart was charged with unlicensed possession of a weapon under 21 after officers found a handgun in his car, police said. The firearm’s serial number was defaced, leading to an additional charge, along with possession of a high-capacity magazine with metal-piercing bullets.

Students in the Sales and Marketing Career Pathway class at St. Laurence High School are gaining real-world experience by selling their own “Scents of Valhalla” candles, with proceeds reinvested into the program. “We have 11 different pathways available at the moment,” said Anne McGillycuddy, internship coordinator at the coed high school at 5556 W. 77th St. in Burbank. Founded in 2016 by Director of Strategic Development Pete Lotus, the Career Pathway program now includes about 350 students.
