SALT LAKE CITY — Several power outages affected different communities around Utah Thursday. These include outages in Mapleton, Bluffdale and Layton. Mapleton power outageAccording to Rocky Mountain Power, as of the time of writing this article, an outage is affecting around 1,000 customers in Mapleton. The Mapleton City Fire Department posted to Facebook said the outage was caused by a transformer that caught fire.

SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters responded to a garage fire in Washington Terrace Thursday afternoon. The Washington Terrace Fire Department’s chief, Clayton Peterson, said the fire took place near West 4525 South at around 2:49 p.m.Two people were home at the time. They were later treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation, but are now in good condition, according to Peterson. In addition, three cats were killed in the garage fire.

SALT LAKE CITY — An estimated 600 people attended an anti-ICE protest in downtown Salt Lake City Thursday evening. The protest began at Washington Square Park at around 6 p.m.Brent Weisberg with the Salt Lake City Police Department said that while the protest has mostly been peaceful, there was propery damage to a Tesla located between 100 and 200 South. Weisberg also said SLCPD officers broke up several fights. Those fights are under investigation.

SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested in Price in connection with an aggravated kidnapping assault and burglary that happened on Thursday. According to Cpt. Brandon Ratcliffe with the Price City Police Department, on Friday afternoon, police had heard the man was armed and “wanted a shootout,” however, no shots were fired. Multiple agencies, including Utah County SWAT, helped apprehend the man. This story is developing and will be updated as further information is made available.
