Hopkinsville Police arrested Mark Ware Friday night after he intentionally drove into a crowd of people, resulting in a woman being injured. According to Hopkinsville Police Department Public Information Officer Colette Marfil, Ware was driving on East 18th Street when he intentionally drove through a crowd of people. Afterward, Ware attempted to leave the scene, but was stopped by witnesses. Willie Haskins was struck by Ware’s car and had to be flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Hopkinsville Community College hosted two commencements and a nurse pinning ceremony on Friday to celebrate the hard work and dedication of its spring graduates. The nurse pinning ceremony took over the Thomas L. Riley Lecture Hall Friday morning. Twenty-eight graduates were celebrated for completing the registered nurse program. Then at noon and 3 p.m., commencement ceremonies celebrated graduates receiving associate degrees, diplomas and certificates.

As construction continues on the consolidated Christian County High School, the school system announced that Ken Carver has been selected to serve as the executive principal of the school. Carver has most recently served as the principal of Muhlenberg County High School. Prior to serving as principal, Carver taught science at Muhlenberg North and South Middle Schools from 2005 to 2012. He has also coached baseball and basketball and served as an assistant athletic director.

A single-vehicle wreck on South Fowler Avenue near West Second Street resulted in possible injuries on Tuesday. According to a report, Jakiyah Caldwell of Hopkinsville was driving south down the avenue approaching West Second Street and drove off the roadway for an unknown reason. Caldwell reportedly hit a utility pole and a railing before colliding with the front of a residence. At the scene, Caldwell reportedly told first responders she did not know what happened.

A portion of Liberty Street along Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville has been honorarily named “Raymond P. Gamble Way” to remember the funeral home’s founder on Thursday. Raymond Gamble founded Gamble Funeral Home in 1987. During his life, Gamble was well involved in the community and received recognitions, including a Focus 21st Century Award, George S. Dooley Humanitarian Award, High-Capacity Minority Business Award and James Quarles Minority Business of the Year Award. Gamble passed away in 2019.
