Thanks to the generosity of Scarborough-based Castle Construction (Scarborough) Limited, the previously unused area of the hospice has now been transformed into a welcoming and purpose-built space known as The Castle Suite.

Two firefighters have successfully completed a 420-mile challenge, running to every fire station in North Yorkshire over 14 gruelling days. North Yorkshire firefighter Jay Taylor and Tyne and Wear firefighter Robyn Foster have raised more than £8,000 for The Firefighters Charity and VTRN Reset by completing the FireCallRun. They set off from Richmond Fire Station on May 18, covering an average of 30 miles a day.

Plans to relocate Dewsbury Library Hub to a new home in the town centre have taken a step forward. Kirklees Council has announced that refurbishment work has now started at the library’s new location, with contractors Walter West Limited appointed to carry out the renovation, which is set to take 12 weeks to complete.

An author whose latest book has amassed more than 1.2 million views on Instagram made a special visit to speak to students at Batley Grammar School. Mohammed Bhana, of Batley, held a session with pupils in years five, six and seven, where they could read his latest book, “Five”, alongside him. The book has been so popular that readers have snapped images of it on holiday in exotic locations such as the Taj Mahal in India, the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles and in Sweden.

Dewsbury Photographic Group members have entered more than 100 images for the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU) annual exhibition. The club has been a member of the YPU since 1901. This year, members had 13 prints and images accepted. One member gained a certificate of merit for one of their prints. A number of newer members entered prints or images with a view to having some of their work accepted in the future.
