A dredging barge sitting idle on the Gold Coast for the past two weeks is finally being put to work to help restore the city's eroded beaches following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. For the next eight weeks, the barge will dredge sand from the ocean floor and pump it towards the beaches in an effort to replace the 4 million cubic metres of sand washed away during the cyclone.

The search for a missing Queensland police officer has been suspended four days after the detective inspector disappeared near a northern New South Wales beach. Authorities believe Jay Notaro, 45, visited Broken Head on Tuesday morning. His car and surfboard were found at the beach by a member of the public. Concerns were raised on his whereabouts when he failed to show up for work as an inspector at Ipswich police station and did not answer his phone.

More than 33,000 properties remain without power across south-east Queensland, with about half of the outages on the Gold Coast. Crews have already restored power to 400,000 homes and businesses impacted by the cyclone, according to Energex spokesman Danny Donald. Police have shot a man on the Gold Coast after he allegedly threatened officers with a weapon. Police were called to Gardenia Grove at Burleigh Heads about 7.30pm on Saturday. They were told an armed man was making threats. Officers attended the property before the man allegedly began threatening police. A police officer shot the man in the leg. Police said "medical assistance was immediately rendered to the man" before paramedics took him to Gold Coast University Hospital.

A Gold Coast tennis coach has resigned from his position at a tennis academy after being charged with multiple child sex offences, including rape. Ryan Kebblewhite was arrested by detectives on Sunday after investigations into a string of alleged historical child sexual offences allegedly committed on the Gold Coast. "Police will allege the man repeatedly offended against a child, known to him through involvement in a sport academy, between 2021 and 2023," a Queensland police spokesperson said.
