Funeral arrangements have been announced for businessman and Fine Gael politician John Mullins, who passed away suddenly at home yesterday morning at the age of 57. Mr Mullins will repose at the Jerh O’Connor & Sons Ltd funeral home at Sarsfield Rd tomorrow from 5pm to 6pm. Liturgy of the Word will take place at 1pm on Thursday in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Dennehy’s Cross, with funeral afterwards to the Island Crematorium, Rocky Island, Ringaskiddy.

The Taoiseach led tributes to businessman, entrepreneur, and Fine Gael politician John Mullins, who passed away suddenly at home on Monday morning at the age of 57. A former chief executive of Bord Gáis, and group chairman of clean energy firm Amarenco Solar, Mr Mullins was a Fine Gael candidate in Ireland South in last June’s European parliamentary elections, polling 33,281 first preferences.

Mr Martin — who earlier yesterday morning joined EU commissioner Michael McGrath to launch the new €23m Platform 6 at Kent Station — said that the Cork Luas would be a significant and transformational development for the city.

The death has occurred of businessman, entrepreneur and Fine Gael politician John Mullins. Mr Mullins, who passed away suddenly, was in his mid 50s. A former chair of Bord Gáis, Mr Mullins polled 33,281 first preferences as a Fine Gael candidate in Ireland South in last June’s European parliamentary elections before being eliminated on the 17th count. Mr Mullins unsuccessfully sought the Fine Gael nomination to run in Cork South Central in November’s general election.

The new platform 6 at Kent Station was officially opened this morning by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, EU commissioner Michael McGrath, transport minister Darragh O’Brien, minister of state at the Department of Transport Jerry Buttimer, and Jim Meade, Iarnród Éireann CEO. The €23m project, which was funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), marks the completion of the first in a series of interrelated projects being delivered under the Cork Area Commuter Rail programme.
