A former Fianna Fáil councillor from Cork who pleaded guilty to the harassment of a woman will be sentenced on June 27th next. Joseph O’Donovan, formerly known as Gary O’Flynn, of Melvindale House, Coolowen, Blarney appeared before Cork District Court having previously pleaded guilty to one count of harassment. Joseph O’Donovan, is the son of former TD, Noel O’Flynn and when he was known as Gary O'Flynn was a sitting councillor in Cork city from 2003 to 2008.

Cork County Council’s Beach Lifeguard Teams will resume duty at 12 beaches this June bank holiday weekend. The service will operate each weekend in June, seven days a week in July and August, and the first two weekends in September.

The jury in the trial of Richard Satchwell have started their deliberations. The seven women and five men were sent to the jury room at 3:05pm. Mr Justice Paul McDermott told the jury three verdicts are open to them - guilty of murder, not guilty on the basis of self defence, and not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. The judge said he will only accept a unanimous verdict and told the jury they can examine any of the materials included as evidence and can ask him any questions if needed.

The jury in the trial of Richard Satchwell has been told to carefully consider if what the accused has to say about the moments surrounding the death of Tina Satchwell is true. 58-year-old Richard Satchwell of Grattan Street, Youghal, county Cork has pleaded NOT guilty to the murder of Tina Satchwell at the same address in March 2017. Mr Justice Paul McDermott began his summary of the facts of the case today on the 20th day of the trial.
