AUGUSTA, Maine — A revised forecast for Maine’s state revenues, released Thursday, has injected fresh tension into an already fraught state budget process. The report from the Revenue Forecasting Committee projects the state’s general fund will generate roughly $11.2 billion over the next two fiscal years, approximately $23 million less than what was anticipated in December. It also predicts revenues for the current fiscal year will be roughly $24 million higher than previously thought.

AUGUSTA, Maine — In yet another legal duel between Maine and the federal government, Attorney General Aaron Frey joined an effort this week to subdue President Donald Trump’s ability to slap tariffs on imports. The suit, filed with 11 other states, argues the president broke the law when he put up sweeping trade barriers in his first months in office. “I’m not looking for more cases,” Frey said Thursday in an interview.

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine House advanced a bill on Tuesday that would significantly increase state funding for family planning services. The proposal would dedicate $6.1 million to this care, which includes testing for sexually transmitted diseases and contraception. Currently, the state allocates $978,000 per year for these services, distributing the funds to more than 60 family planning centers across Maine through the organization Maine Family Planning.
