With clear skies and temperatures in the 50s when runners began at 8 a.m., Bay to Breakers couldn't have asked for nicer weather in San Francisco on Sunday. The annual race, which draws tens of thousands of participants, both official and unofficial, has been run since 1912, making it one of the oldest continuously held footraces in the world.

San Francisco’s Union Square jolted to life Saturday when Santa Clauses flooded the neighborhood around noon, attempting to stay dry between intermittent downpours. But instead of hauling sleighs to the city, these Saint Nicks brought the party and elevated blood alcohol content to match. They came for the annual San Francisco SantaCon, a holiday toy drive, bar crawl and costume contest rolled into one chaotic, rollicking event.
