Clark Mills, NY -- Shelly Johnson and her lifelong companion, Eddie Hickey, were awakened by a howling storm early Sunday. While the half-asleep couple were deciding whether to evacuate, a tornado sent a tree crashing into the roof of their mobile home on Millstream Court in Clark Mills, a small hamlet in Oneida County. A piece of metal roof tossed Hickey off the bed. Johnson was crushed by the falling tree, a casualty of the freak overnight storm.

Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man who killed a Facebook adversary was acquitted of murder by a jury Friday, but found guilty of attempted murder for shooting at the victim minutes before the slaying. Melchizedek Pearson faces up to 25 years in prison for shooting at Khadeem Conley during their initial encounter April 3, 2024 on Temple Street. He also faces up to 15 years in prison for possessing an illegal gun during the ordeal.
