New details have come to light surrounding Regina receiving a second Costco location. The province says the retail chain’s initial plan called for both a store and a distribution warehouse at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH). Crews have started soil testing at the future Costco site in Regina’s Westerra neighbourhood. It comes days after the city offered a $6.7 million incentive to have the project built there rather than at the provincially owned GTH.

The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged a man in Weyburn following a months long investigation into child luring. Investigators initially began their efforts in February of 2024. On July 17, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Weyburn. Electronic devices were examined and seized by investigators. As a result of the findings, police officially charged Robert Brydon, 45, with one count of luring a child on May 9.

The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding the public to be cautious when approaching farm machinery on provincial roadways – as warm conditions have allowed producers to get in the field earlier. According to the first annual crop report, seeding across the province is already 18 per cent complete, with those in the southwest flying far ahead with 43 per cent of crops in the ground. Minimal precipitation this spring has also assisted the early jump on seeding.

Lumsden RCMP responded to the scene of a train derailment near Craven late Sunday. According to the service, Highway 20 was blocked in both directions as a result of the derailment. No dangerous goods were spilled, and no injuries have been reported. Detours were put in place as crews worked to clear the highway. The cleanup was expected to take several hours. Producers in Saskatchewan are wasting no time in getting into the field – as spring seeding is already 18 per cent complete across the province. Despite several storms during the month of April, producers have been able to make some serious progress, with the current metric outstripping Saskatchewan’s 10-year average of 12 per cent. In terms of regions, Saskatchewan’s southwest is furthest along with 43 per cent of land seeded, as of May 5.
