SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Softball season is closer than you think. The Notre Dame softball team will start its season this weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. Head coach Deanna Gumpf is entering her 23rd season at the helm of the program. She became the school’s all-time winningest coach across all sports last season.

And when the Notre Dame softball team takes the field for one of its first games later this month, it’ll do so in historic fashion. The Irish will start their season next weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., and their tilt against Utah on Saturday, Feb. 10, will be the first ever live college softball game to be broadcast live on the MLB Network.

Wawasee hiring Matt Thacker as next head football coach

(WNDU) - We’ve got a coaching change at the high school level here in Michiana. According to a social media post from Fairfield Community Schools, Wawasee has hired Fairfield football coach Matt Thacker as its next head football coach. The move is pending school board approval. Thacker went 30-32 over six seasons at Fairfield, winning back-to-back NECC Big School division titles in 2020 and 2021. “Coach has done a great job from top to bottom,” said Fairfield Athletic Director Mark Engle.
