CHI Mercy Health’s Center for Wound Healing and Centennial Interventional Radiology will host a free Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) screening for community members June 21. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mercy’s Wound Center, located on the first floor of 2700 NW Stewart Pkwy. PAD affects an estimated 8 million Americans and up to 14% of people worldwide. Risk factors include age, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

A new hands-on horticulture series aimed at tribal families is set to begin this month, offering a mix of agricultural training and cultural education in Douglas County. The Tribal Roots Horticulture Program, a partnership between the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and the OSU Extension Service launches June 17.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) have declared that the 2025 fire season will begin at 12:01 a.m. on June 6. The declaration applies to all private, county, state and Bureau of Indian Affairs land within the Douglas District. The announcement brings with it a range of fire restrictions aimed at minimizing wildfire risk as dry summer conditions set in.

The Seattle-based company Weyerhaeuser announced a $375 million agreement to acquire roughly 117,000 acres of timberland from Roanoke Timberlands LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Roseburg Forest Products. The deal, announced May 22, will transfer forest acres in North Carolina and Virginia into Weyerhaeuser’s holdings in the region.
