WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Memorial Day weekend is often referred to as the unofficial start of summer. Many are spending the extended weekend camping out at El Dorado and Cheney Lake. However, those campers are having to battle the elements as for several nights in a row, strong storms have passed through Kansas during the overnight hours. One camper at Cheney Lake said his tent wasn’t able to keep out all the rain.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A 28-year-old man has serious injuries after a shooting Sunday morning in southeast Wichita. Wichita Police say at around 1:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2500 of S. Oliver. There officers found a man suffering from a serious but non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police believe the victim and the suspect know each other. This is an ongoing investigation.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says one man was killed in an early Sunday morning crash in Geary County. According to crash logs, 20-year-old Richard Roberts from Florida was driving north on U.S. 77 at fast speeds when the car went into the ditch. Roberts continued to drive in the ditch before hitting a tree. The KHP says the vehicle then caught fire as a result of the crash. Roberts was killed in the accident. Roberts was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

GRINNELL, Kan. (KWCH) - It has been one week since an EF-3 tornado ripped through the town of Grinnell, and there is still a lot of work left to cleanup the town. However, volunteers have assisted every day in picking up the pieces including rebuilding the Cemetery of Immaculate Conception. The tornado caused significant damage to the headstones as they were knocked over causing some to break.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A driver in Kansas picked up an unexpected hitchhiker. A viewer sent us a photo of a snake that popped up from underneath the hood of her car. She says she was driving from Nickerson to Hutchinson and was home for about two hours before leaving to attend a graduation when the snake poked its head out. The snake slithered up the side of the front wind shield.
