I want to speak directly to why that matters — not just for Shocker fans, but for our entire city. Wichita deserves a nationally competitive basketball program. But more than that, Wichita needs one.

The former Horton’s Furniture building on West Kellogg likely is going to have some furniture in it yet again, but only if people leasing space decide to store some there. That’s because Florida-based TriCore Investment Group is converting the building, which is between Maize Road and 119th, into a People’s Choice Storage facility. The company already has two People’s Choice facilities open in Wichita: at 3401 N. Hillside, just north of K-96; and 6209 W.

Bartlett Arboretum’s annual Art at the Arb, a two-day event held in conjunction with the outdoor museum’s longtime annual Tulip Festival, has become a can’t-miss event for artist Skeet Sirmons. “It’s an event that I look forward to every year,” said the Wellington-based oil painter, who was among the first artists to participate when arboretum steward Robin Macy started it two decades ago.
