FLINT, MI – Two NBA stars will return to their hometown this weekend to take part in a Jr. NBA All Star Weekend event to inspire young athletes. Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges and free agent guard Monte Morris will attend an event to culminate the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village Jr. NBA season, which features local athletes in elementary and middle school. It will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the Insight Health and Fitness Center at 4500 S. Saginaw in Flint.

OWOSSO, MI – A no-kill animal shelter is expected to open soon in Shiawassee County. The county plans to reopen a previous facility that closed in 2012 due to budget cuts, staff changes and a partnership with the Shiawassee County Humane Society, according to an announcement from Shiawassee County Sheriff Doug Chapman and the Board of CommissionersTo do so, the shelter is looking for volunteers and supplies.

GRAND BLANC TWP, MI – There were no injuries to report after police responded to shots fired on Oakmont Street in the Warwick Hills subdivision Friday morning. Police responded to the location at 6:13 a.m. on June 20, according to a news release from the Grand Blanc Township Police Department. Their preliminary investigation suggested an elderly female resident discharged a firearm inside her home. She appeared to be suffering from age-related cognitive issues, according to the release.

FLINT, MI – A new trial date has been set in the case against a former Atherton Community Schools music teacher accused of having inappropriate relations with a 14-year-old student. Jerry Cutting was originally scheduled for a plea hearing before Genesee County Circuit Court Judge B. Chris Christenson on June 18, but no plea was made in the courtroom. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Andrea LeGendre said the victim, who is needed to move forward towards a resolution, was not present at the hearing.
