MOORHEAD, Minn., (KVRR)- Severe Weather season has started around the country and the NWS is helping people get prepared. They are hosting multiple classes on how to be a NWS Storm spotter and how to spot storms safely. In these classes people were taught how to use NWS products, and safety tips for any kind of severe weather The NWS does these classes every spring and storm spotters are essential for assessing storms and issuing warnings.
Golden Drive distributes food, supplies for children in need

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – A major initiative to take care of the needs of homeless kids over the summer is coming to fruition. Golden Drive for Homeless Kids has been collecting food, clothing, hygiene products and other necessities to help out kids in need. On Monday, social workers from local schools picked up an estimated $20,000 in products at the West Fargo Rural Fire Dept. “We know poverty is one step away from being homeless. Smoky conditions expected for the summer

Due to Canadian wildfires and weather patterns, smoke from those wildfires has moved south and has impacted the region. This smoke can have many impacts, including cooling the region when aloft in the atmosphere, and impacting air quality when on the surface.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It is National Bike to School Day, a perfect time to remind kids about bicycle safety. With the weather warming up, more and more kids are biking to school and just for fun. Because of this Sanford Children’s Safe Kids is advising parents to make sure they are biking safely. They ask parents to wear helmets themselves to be a role model, make sure kids know the rules of the road and to look both ways.
River Keepers Host Rain Barrel Workshop

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — With the recent rain in the area, River Keepers are helping people harness the rain. River Keepers partnered with Moorhead Parks and Recreation to host a ‘Make Your Own Rain Barrel’ workshop. At the event people, created a 55 gallon rain barrel for their own use, as well as, watching a presentation on storm runoff and water quality. Rain barrels are important for sustainability of the Red River Valley. They help with storm and rain pollution.
Fargo Air Museum honors National Patriots' Day

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Today is national Patriots’ Day and the Fargo Air Museum is celebrating. The museum hosted a ceremony to honor patriots and all armed forces veterans for the special day. There were multiple speeches from veterans, a speech from Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney, music performed by the Fargo North High School Choir, and a rifle salute by the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard.
Fargo Public Library Eclipse Glasses Giveaway

FARGO, N.D., (KVRR) — With the eclipse coming up on Monday, Fargo Public library is taking part in the festivities. While supplies last, the library is giving away eclipse glasses at all of its locations. These glasses are free and available through Sunday, the day before the eclipse. They are meant for kids and the library says that giving them out will help them learn more about the rare event.

MOORHEAD, Minn., (KVRR) — The solar eclipse is set for April 8th and preparations should be made to enjoy it. The eclipse will be hitting the United States from 12 pm- 4pm in different areas. Here in Fargo, we are expected to see the eclipse from 12:49-3:09 pm and a maximum sun blockage of 63 percent. To see totality, people will have to travel. Areas to travel to include Dallas, Texas and Indianapolis, Indiana.
