EVANS MILLS — Relay for Life of the North Country will be held Friday at the Evans Mills Raceway Park, 28412 Steinhilber Road,The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a parade of teams. There are more than 36 registered teams from Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The event continues with members of the teams walking around the track throughout the evening — with laps for cancer survivors, caregivers and concluding with a laminaria ceremony to remember those lost to cancer and honor survivors.

RUTLAND — With his Boy Scout leader training kicking into gear, beekeeper Michael H. Comet came to the aid of queens and bees when he came upon a crashed vehicle that was transporting several bee hives. An SUV that was transporting about 14,000 bees and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Route 12 and Route 161 about 11:40 a.m. May 20. State police are investigating the crash. There were no injuries. Comet, of Lowville, was traveling to Watertown when he came upon the collision.
