EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Evansville Primary Care Doctor David Schultz says the holidays have kept him busy in more ways than one. As people draw indoors to celebrate the holidays, germs are spreading. Schultz says he’s noticed a 15 to 20 percent increase in COVID-19 and RSV cases over the last few weeks. “Personally, in our office, we’ve seen a lot of hospitalizations from this,” Schultz said.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - Emergency Management officials are taking steps to make sure people are prepared for the next tornado. Henderson County EMA Director’s Assistant Jill Ward says when tornadoes tore through Western Kentucky two years ago, many people weren’t prepared. “Some people didn’t shelter, some people sheltered in an inadequate place and that cost lives,” she said.

DUBOIS CO., Ind. (WFIE) - In Dubois County, officials are sounding the alarm about drugs traveling through the area. Dubois County Sheriff’s Office is going to be devoting more of their resources to crack down on the spread of narcotics in the area. We’re told drug related crimes account for almost all of the county’s illegal activity. Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter says Dubois County has a drug problem. “I would say somewhere between 80 to 90 percent of our crime is narcotics related.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - An Owensboro teen sentenced to 30 years for manslaughter and other crimes will have a second chance to get a new sentence. Jaikorian Johnson will get a chance to stand in front of a jury once again to get a new sentence. The state supreme court decided to throw out his old sentence where he got 30 years in prison in connection with the death of a 15-year-old.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - The Green River Area Development District is looking for donations for their Silver Bells project. They are making sure 250 senior residents in Kentucky get gifts for Christmas this year. GRADD will deliver bags filled with necessities and treats. These presents will be delivered to residents of long-term personal care homes in Henderson, Daviess and Hancock counties.
