Overall cancer mortality rates decreased for men, women and children in the U.S. between 2018 and 2022, according to the National Cancer Institute’s “Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer,” published April 21 in Cancer. The report presents cancer incidence and mortality data collected from NCI and CDC population-based cancer registries, as well as from the National Center for Health Statistics’ National Vital Statistics System, according to an April 21 news release from the NCI.

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health has broken ground on the Saratoga Springs Multi-Specialty Clinic. The facility will offer primary care, speciality services and a new cancer center. The Intermountain Health Saratoga Springs Cancer Center will provide medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion therapy, chemotherapy, in-office procedures and treatment planning, according to an April 18 news release from the health system.

Cancer researcher and a founding member of Pittsburgh-based UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Susann Gollin, MD, PhD, has died at 71. Dr. Gollin “pioneered important discoveries in the field of head and neck cancer,” according to an April 8 news release from the University of Pittsburgh. She patented the observation that specific gene loss and overexpression is correlated with cancer development and treatment resistance, the release said.

The lawsuit argues against upholding an ACA provision requiring private health insurers to provide free coverage for preventive services, NBC News reported April 18. Since the ACA passed in 2010, services such as cancer screenings, and medications to prevent heart disease and HIV, have been available at no cost to patients.
