The New York City Council filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Mayor Eric Adams over his administration’s decision to allow federal immigration agents on the Rikers Island jail complex. The complaint accuses Adams of entering into a “corrupt bargain” with the Trump administration to get his federal corruption charges dropped. A judge permanently dismissed the corruption case earlier this month.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has canceled $188 million in funding for migrant shelters and services in New York City, according to a letter to city officials — part of an ongoing effort by the Trump administration to punish cities that fail to comply with its immigration crackdown. The letter, sent April 1 to the city’s Office of Management and Budget, identifies three grants the city was expecting.
