Mayor Eric Adams wasted little time jumping into a general election fight Wednesday with Zohran Mamdani, calling the presumptive Democratic nominee “a snake oil salesman.”One day after Mamdani’s shocking upset win over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Adams took to a friendly forum — “Fox and Friends” — to attack the progressive star grabbing national headlines. “He’s a snake oil salesman,” Adams said.

Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist who ran a grassroots campaign that inspired younger voters through a relentless focus on making New York City more affordable, was set to win the Democratic primary for mayor Tuesday, toppling former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and nine other candidates in a political earthquake that will reverberate throughout the country.

Mayor Eric Adams may not be on the ballot in New York City’s Democratic primary, but that’s not going to keep him from exercising his right to vote. “There is no mayoral candidate on there that anyone should be voting for,” Adams said last week when asked about his plans for Primary Day. “I'm going to vote for my city councilmember.”Speaking to a roomful of reporters he added, “I can't imagine any of you voting for any other candidate. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams once again declined to voice support for a coalition of left-leaning candidates during a Saturday speech at Rev. All three are backed by the Working Families Party.

Early voting turnout in the Democratic primary election for mayor has doubled compared to four years ago — and experts say there's a possibility the numbers signal a "transformative" shift in New York City's electorate. A Gothamist analysis of data from the Board of Elections shows that 131,434 people cast ballots at their poll sites in the first four days of early voting this year. That’s double the number of voters at that point in the 2021 mayoral race.

Mayor Adams disputes whether Cuomo truly has the support of Orthodox groups and Black churches. "He's the master of giving the impression" he has the whole community, he says. He also makes a prediction: "Since the polls are shifting, he's going to start coming outside more."
