A fire that consumed two excavators in Oswego and continued to burn eight hours later was fueled by a raptured natural gas line, Oswego Fire Protection District officials said. The Oswego Fire Protection District responded to the fire about 10:30 a.m. Friday near Wolf Road and Fifth Street, according to a news release. Dispatch advised crews that a second excavator had caught fire while crews were en route, leading to more resources being sent to the scene.

Children and their families in La Salle and Bureau counties will receive extra groceries in part thanks to a recent grant awarded by the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation. Feed His Children was awarded a $1,500 community grant by the Ottawa-based foundation. Working through the school system, Feed His Children provides supplemental grocery bags to more than 600 families two weekends each month, according to a news release.

Braveheart Children’s Advocacy Center in Princeton was awarded a $1,500 Starved Rock Country Community Foundation community grant to help it serve victims of child abuse and their families. The grant will allow Braveheart to purchase gas cards for victims’ families from Bureau, Putnam and Marshall counties, according to a news release. Braveheart supports victims of child abuse ages 3 to 17 through prevention, intervention and advocacy.
