A brand new music festival is bringing free jazz to New York City. The festival, entitled “Golden Hour,” will take place at Plaza33 from May 22 through Sept. 18. Presented by the 34th Street Partnership, the lineup was curated by cultural partners including Jalopy Theatre, The Jazz Gallery, New Colossus Festival, and Jazz Foundation of America. The festival will feature Americana, jazz, and emerging indie acts.

Two peregrine falcon chicks hatched on the Bayonne Bridge nesting tower, and two more are on the way!A peregrine falcon family nesting on the Bayonne Bridge between Staten Island and New Jersey grew a little bigger right before Mother’s Day. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced on Friday, May 9, that two new peregrine falcon chicks were hatched on the bridge’s nesting tower about the Kill Van Kull. Two more chicks are expected to hatch at any moment.

“Boardwalk Empire” actor Michael Pitt is being prosecuted in Brooklyn for various alleged sexual abuse actions dating back to 2020 and 2021, reports say. According to ABC7, Pitt was charged with sexual abuse, criminal sex act, assault and strangulation, and was arrested back on May 2. He pleaded not guilty before the Brooklyn Supreme Court and is due to return to court in June. Reports indicated that the alleged abuse took place in the actor’s Brooklyn home between April 2020 and August 2021.

Rite Aid is closing the rest of its New York stores after long-standing financial issues, according to multiple reports. The drug store chain, which has 178 still-open stores in the state, filed for bankruptcy Monday — the second time in two years that the company has filed for relief from its creditors. The first round of employee layoffs is expected to start on June 4.
