She received the award for advocating on behalf of Capt. BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Impaired driving has long been an issue in North Dakota, but the DOT has some uplifting news to share: the latest numbers show drunk driving fatalities are coming down. The 2024 preliminary numbers show we can attribute 21% of driving fatalities to impaired driving. That’s down 10% from 2023. The stories are sad, but they’re also stories North Dakotans can relate to. It’s the older brother who drove drunk and now lives with a brain injury.

WARD COUNTY, N.D. (KMOT/KFYR) - The Ward County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing 19-year-old woman. They took to social media Sunday saying Tela Nelson was last seen at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11. The post said she has brown hair and brown eyes, and is roughly 5′8″ and 150 lbs. She was last seen wearing a red shirt, black tank top with flowers, black leggings, white flip flops, and a navy-blue beanie. She was also carrying a small pink backpack and black purse with a chain. MINOT, N.D. (KFYR) - A structure fire Friday night in Minot displaced a family and left four animals dead. The Minot Fire Department says crews responded to reports of a kitchen fire at 618 14th Street NW just before 9 p.m.When they got there, the Department says they saw smoke and quickly deployed a handline while other firefighters initiated a search for family pets reportedly trapped inside. Crews say they rapidly knocked down the fire until three cats were rescued.
