    EAST JACKSON -- Jonesville put up 138 points as a team at the Cascades Conference boys track meet on Friday at East Jackson to take first in that meet, and secure a share of the conference title with Hanover-Horton. Hanover-Horton had beaten Jonesville in a dual meet earlier this season, but Jonesville came up with a strong response Friday, powered by strong showings in distance events and hurdles.

    EAST JACKSON -- For the first time, there is a five-time champion in girls track in the Cascades Conference. The Grass Lake girls secured their fifth conference title in a row when they put up 107.5 points at Friday’s conference meet at East Jackson. Leslie was second with 99 points. Homer was third with 80. Grass Lake’s run, which began with the state-championship team in 2021, continued through 2022, 2023, 2024 and this season.

    JACKSON – The Western baseball team kept putting up multi-run innings in a sweep of Northwest on Thursday, winning the first game 10-0 in five innings and the second 20-12. The Panthers had three in the first, three in the second and four in the fourth inning of Game 1. Game 2 saw the Panthers bat around in two of the first three innings to take a 14-0 lead, then add a four-run sixth. In Game 1, DJ VanRiper was 2-for-4. Andrew Parrott was 2-for-3, and Lincoln Levy drove in a pair of runs.

    JACKSON – Home runs were flying for both Northwest and Western in an Interstate 8 softball matchup on Thursday, but it was the Mounties putting together big innings in a sweep, winning 11-2 and 15-8. Northwest’s Ari Good broke open the first game with a grand slam in the fourth, part of a five-run inning for the Mounties.

    MANCHESTER – Two second-half goals a minute apart turned things around for the Manchester girls soccer team Wednesday in a Cascades Conference match with Michigan Center. Down by a goal at halftime, the Flying Dutchmen struck early in the second half, then struck again moments later to pull out a 2-1 win. Ellie Marsh tied it in the 50th minute, clanging a shot off the right post and rolling it in. “I just saw an opportunity and kicked it,” she said.
