    LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – If your weekend plans included heading to Louisville for some funnel cake, live music, arts, and a car show, we have some bad news. The 44th Annual Red Hills Festival scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled. The Red Hills Festival Committee made the announcement this afternoon, on May 9. The committee cited the possibility of heavy rainfall throughout the day as the reason.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Long, Blue Line is now a little longer. Friends and family members were on hand on May 9 as more than 300 Mississippi University for Women students received their diplomas at two ceremonies on The W’s Columbus campus. The early ceremony featured graduates from the Vandergriff College of Nursing and Health Sciences receiving their associate, bachelor, and doctorate degrees in nursing, along with graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences.

    JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Supreme Court denied State Auditor Shad White’s appeal to dismiss a former NFL quarterback’s defamation lawsuit against him. White had filed a request with the state’s high court on March 12. Our statewide news partner, WLBT, reports White wanted the court to overturn a decision by a Hinds County Judge to dismiss the suit filed by Hall of Fame Quarterback Brett Favre, saying he was only exercising his First Amendment rights.

    EAST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE (WCBI) – Hundreds of students earned a new title: graduate. East Mississippi Community College’s Golden Triangle Campus hosted two graduation ceremonies today. This morning, on May 9, Career Technical students crossed the stage at the Lyceum Auditorium in Mayhew. Graduates earned certifications and degrees in more than 20 career fields. This afternoon, the Golden Triangle Campus hosted ceremonies for Academic graduates.

    OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some parts of the viewing area saw severe, but fast-moving storms this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm in Oktibbeha County caused heavy damage to an apartment complex. Oktibbeha County Fire Coordinator Patrick Warner sent us these pictures of the damage at Brelands Overlook near Rockhill Road in the county. The roof was blown off, and several vehicles were damaged. Fortunately, there were no major injuries.
