CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Cortland County is working to raise awareness of a language disorder this National Aphasia Awareness Month. Patients with Aphasia often have difficulty speaking, reading, writing and using numbers. It often follows traumatic brain injuries like strokes. The condition affects 2 million people in the U.S.Speech therapy can help people with Aphasia, and an expert at Guthrie said it’s essential to keep fighting.

The Spiedie and Rib Pit is set to be featured on the YouTube page and website after Manager John Schofield was contacted by the platform six months ago. Within the next couple of weeks, America’s Best Restaurants will be in town doing a feature piece on the Binghamton staple.

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Broome County is investing more than $50,000 into local law enforcement agencies. The money is being allocated toward improvements in community policing throughout the summer. The $52,000 is coming from the District Attorney’s Traffic Diversion Fund and will help increase foot and bike patrols in neighborhoods, parks and shopping centers. District Attorney Paul Batisti hopes that this will strengthen trust and communication between law enforcement and the community.

OWEGO, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Owego’s Strawberry Festival starts on June 20. The team is gearing up for a busy weekend, as June 20 is also graduation for many students. The festival team is spending the entire week setting up to ensure that residents enjoy the festival. “It’s all about family and community. I think that’s what I love about it. That’s the energy behind it,” said Strawberry Festival Chair Wendy Post. Organizers say downtown will change quickly, filling up with tents.
