BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- On May 12, 72 Thorpe St. in Binghamton went up in flames. Cory Grimes just moved into the house last week. He bought an Ebike and was charging the battery under his bed when he heard a large popping noise. “Apparently, there was a fault or short in the wires, and it ignited the battery and in a matter of minutes the whole room was engulfed and then the rest of the house followed,” Grimes said.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Crucial funding for advanced research on a life-saving heart valve has been cut from Cornell University. It is a device the size of an AA battery that is implanted in the body, attached to the heart, and assists the heart in propelling blood to the rest of the body. Researcher and professor of Heart Assist Technology at Cornell, James Antaki, calls it the Pediaflow. “I think it’s my lifelong mission,” Antacki said.

These books are jam-packed with information, covering topics like the length of a boy’s hair and whether or not schools should allow dancing.

NEW YORK (WBNG) -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand worries about how tariffs will impact new parents and their babies. Currently, tariffs on Chinese goods imported to the US are 145%. Many essential baby products are imported from China, such as strollers, car seats and cribs. “As a parent, I can tell you having a baby isn’t cheap. It can be very expensive and these tariffs are making it even harder for middle class and working families to be able to provide for their children,” said Gillibrand.
