OTSEGO, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Oscar’s Law: A registry you will be mandated to be on if you are convicted of animal cruelty in Otsego County. The law was led by Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin. Oscar’s law, unanimously passed by the Otsego Board of Representatives, was named after a Great Dane named Oscar. This year, he was found starved in a cage inside a home and later succumbed to the conditions.

MAINE, N.Y. (WBNG) -- One student has made history at Maine-Endwell High School and for himself as the first student to graduate from the National External Diploma Program. Jonathan Hernandez moved from El Salvador to the United States in 2018. He’d never been a student before and didn’t think school was in the cards for him. “I didn’t know any English when I came here,” Hernandez said.

Although mental health affects men and women, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, men are more likely to die by suicide than women. In 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the suicide rate among males was approximately four times higher than the rate among women.

After searching for a property for a glamping site, Bushra Umbreen fell in love with the Town of Afton. “I was looking at the sky, and the sky was so broad. Nothing was there between you and nature,” Umbreen said. Town of Supervisor John Lawrence told 12 News he believes Umbreen’s business would be great for the Town.

Through rain and sunshine, Southern Tier community members gathered on Adams Ave. in Endicott, grabbing a piece of history to take home: A brick from the International Business Machines building. “It’s nostalgic, very nostalgic,” Broome County Residents Joy and Woody Miller said.
