A picturesque mountain landscape provided an idyllic backdrop to Grace and Adrian Lorenzoni’s nuptials. Hazy, far-off hilltops made for a beautiful view but couldn’t outshine the joy on their faces as the couple exited the ceremony under an exuberant shower of confetti. It was a scene of pure bucolic charm on Grace’s family farm, Rose Hill. To honor the sentimental location, Adrian created a rose logo for the occasion, which was featured on stationery and custom napkins embroidered by Grace’s mom.

Meghan and Mark’s relationship was more love at first sight than slow burn. Within a couple of months, they knew. The proposal was in Meghan’s flower and veggie garden, near where her grandfather kept horses and the couple often strolled. Afterward, the two wanted to do what they loved most: be near the water. In a decidedly non-traditional twist, they turned a faux engagement party into a surprise wedding reception aboard a luxurious 46-foot catamaran on the Rappahannock River.

There was no better place for nature-loving couple Margaret Platner and Joseph Franco to have their June wedding than River Farm, just outside of Old Town Alexandria where they first met. Love flowed—and so did the Champagne. A fine bottle of bubbly, gifted from the matron of honor as an engagement present, and the best man’s Champagne saber made for a perfect combination.

“What’s going on with that clock?” one member of The Woman’s Club of Accomack County asked fellow member Annemarie Edgar one early autumn day in 2022. The piece had been overlooked in a corner of the group’s Carrie Watson Clubhouse in Onley for as long as anyone could remember. With her curiosity piqued, Edgar turned to local clock expert Mike Gould. He determined the tallcase clock, also called a longcase clock, dated from the 18th century. He could tell it was special, albeit in rough shape.

The nation’s first all-digital public TV network, PBS Appalachia Virginia, made waves when it won a Capital Emmy and announced its new studio would be housed in Bristol’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino just days before launching in June 2023. The network brings four channels—one of them 100 percent region-dedicated—to 14 Southwest Virginia counties that lost access to PBS when former Gov. Bob McDonnell gutted funding in 2013.
