Inverness Spokes for Folks is now one of the largest and busiest cycling affiliated community groups in the UK. Providing opportunities for the elderly and socially isolated groups the chance to get out and about on their assisted bike rides they were forced to stop services during the pandemic due to the vulnerable nature of their service users, but are now bouncing back back.

A cancer sufferer from Castletown is aiming to complete a 10k run just months after having a mastectomy – to thank nurses in Wick for her care. Lois Gray is determined to complete the River Ness 10k, which takes place in Inverness on October 1, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support nurses in Wick. In May, Lois was diagnosed with recurrent breast cancer and just a month later had a mastectomy.

This year's Great Glen Challenge saw 25 teams taking part in aid of RSABI (the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution). They had to tackle a gruelling route between Fort Augustus and Fort William with a 49km mountain cycle, a 6km kayak and an 18km walk followed by a 17km run.

The Miele’s brothers who run the best known Gelateria in Inverness expressed what Highland Council agreeing to the Academy Street plans means for them as they fear “a massive percentage of sales and there is no safety net for us here.”They were speaking directly after the Inverness committee agreed to proceed to the next stage with its plans for a revamp of Academy Street, a move that has shaken the city’s business community.

A Newtonmore family and their unusual friends are set to feature in the BBC’s ‘This Farming Life’ when the sixth series starts this Monday night (August 28). Jenni MacDonell and partner Robert Mackenzie, of Lochbuie Croft, will give viewers a glimpse into the daily running of their croft and their recent surprise additions as they diversify the business. They are not the first familiar faces from the strath to appear in the popular show.
