Nebraska wanted a long day of baseball. But not like this. The Huskers had hoped to parlay their run of elimination-game magic into an NCAA regional final later Sunday. They instead absorbed their most lopsided defeat in more than three years as Oklahoma delivered a 17-1 knockout blow in a postseason rematch sapped of all drama in the early innings. OU (37-21) moves on to face No. 5 national seed North Carolina on Sunday evening at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Ty Horn delivered again. And Nebraska’s baseball season is not over yet. The Huskers got another quality start from Horn and the offense provided the lead in the middle innings in a 4-1 win over Holy Cross in an NCAA regional elimination game Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Cayden Brumbaugh swatted the go-ahead home run in the fifth while Horn and closer Luke Broderick held down the regional four seed.

Oklahoma drew national attention by opting not to lead with its ace pitcher against Nebraska. The move didn’t look much like a risk Friday night to begin the NCAA tournament. Right-hander Malachi Witherspoon repeatedly unleashed his dominant fastball and the Husker lineup couldn’t catch up as the Sooners steadily pulled away for a 7-4 win to open regional action at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Here comes a Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry revival. Playoff-baseball style. The Huskers and Sooners are long removed from their Big 12 days but meet up — in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, of all places — to begin an NCAA regional both have designs on winning. OU went all the way to the College World Series final only three seasons ago; NU hasn’t advanced past opening weekend in 20 years.

“Just trying to be too perfect. You gotta go out and not be afraid to crash and burn.” Nebraska sought "ferociousness" but got tentative offense instead before falling behind late on a flurry of Michigan bunts. The cost was a potential missed sweep. https://t.co/o3hGfE0nb2

Final: Michigan 3, Nebraska 1. Wolverines break an eighth-inning tie when three straight bunting hitters reach base. NU settles for the series win when its pitching was good enough for a sweep. Regular season wraps next week at Purdue.

Michigan works a leadoff walk, then executes three straight right-side bunts in which the batter reaches base. The third is an RBI squeeze from Brayden Jefferis. #Huskers trailing again, 2-1, mid 8th.
