WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Wichita nonprofit is providing support to the families of victims on Flight 5342, which took off from Wichita before crashing in Washington, D.C. in January. The Wichita Foundation has raised more than $100,000. The organization invests in people and ideas to spark change, and recently it established the ICT Together Fund to help families of the crash victims.

The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter in Wichita offers free programs for people living with mental illness and their families. Tara Gwynn, director of NAMI Wichita, highlighted the stigma surrounding mental illness and the need for more awareness.

The votes are in, and the winner is a local nonprofit with a mission of helping animals - Wichita Animal Action League (WAAL.)WAAL is dedicated to rescuing animals in crisis and helping pet owners care for their furry companions. Executive Director Christy Fischer said the need continues to grow.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Santa’s Helpers have been hard at work making sure every kid has a toy for Christmas. KWCH and DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers rewarded those efforts with a Helping Hand. The annual toy drive, sponsored by One and Done and the Kansas Masons, has one mission -- to put toys in the hands of kids in need. “We’re able to do something with an organization that’s bigger than we are,” Mason Jeff Sowder said.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The operators of a new food truck are teaching life skills one serving at a time. KWCH and DeVaughn James provided them a Helping Hand. The Kindness Canteen, run by the Down Syndrome Society of Wichita, serves up more than just nachos and hot dogs. Executive director Natalie Rolfe said it’s changing lives. “We wanted to make sure that we were spreading awareness but displaying kindness,” Rolfe said.
