Westlink Branch Library to hold grand reopening on Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – If you have waited to check out Wichita’s remodeled Westlink Branch Library, this weekend may be a great opportunity. The library reopened in March but still needed a few finishing touches. Now that those finishing touches are completed, the Wichita Public Library is inviting people to the grand reopening celebration this Saturday, May 10.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 7-year-old boy who has been on life support since being pulled out of a hotel pool last Thursday has died, his mother announced. Lauren Hill-Wilson said her son ZJ was swimming at the Red Roof Inn in the 7300 block of E. Kellogg Ave. while she was at work. She said he was under the supervision of a trusted friend when he went under. First responders performed CPR and took him to the hospital.

TREGO COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Seven people have been charged after dozens of crimes in northwest Kansas—some of the most serious charges include racketeering, aggravated arson, and stolen guns. Trego County Attorney Abraham Pfannenstiel said the investigation spanned four counties and several months last year. On Nov. 7, the WaKeeney Police Department investigated a vehicle burglary that resulted in a stolen gun.

Wichita schools unite to help students become teachers more quickly

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita high school students who want to teach elementary students someday have a new way to get there sooner and at less cost. Wichita State University, WSU Tech, and Wichita Public Schools are launching the Future Teacher Academy and a 2+2 pathway program for students. It involves two years at WSU Tech in the paraeducator program, then transferring to WSU for two additional years, while gaining hands-on experience as paraeducators in USD 259 classrooms.
