The new members of the vital life saving club recently completed their induction training at the Ballyheigue Community Centre. In attendance at Ballyheigue on the day were Cllr Jimmy Moloney, Cathaoirleach of the Listowel MD, and Kerry County Council Water Safety Development Officers Leo Hilliard and Niall Hogan. The local politicians were present as part of the raising of the recently acquired Blue Flag at Ballyheigue Beach.

All proceeds from the day – which will be hosted in partnership with Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd – will go towards the essential services provided by the Kerry Parents and Friends Association for adults with intellectual disabilities. Proceeds from this event will directly support the vital work of the Kerry Parents and Friends Association who have been a provider of essential services for adults with intellectual difficulties in Kerry for over 50 years.

This will undoubtedly come as a disappointment to many, especially as it had been anticipated a significant amount of work on the project would be completed early this year. Motions were tabled by Cathaoirleach of the Kenmare MD and Fianna Fáil councillor Tommy Cahill and Fine Gael councillor Teddy O’Sullivan-Casey with both asking for Kerry County Council to provide a progress report on the project.
