    After months of speculation, Rangers have been officially been taken over by a US-based consortium. The investors, led by health tycoon Andrew Cavanagh and the investment group involved with Leeds United and the American football team, the San Francisco 49ers, have acquired a 51% stake in the club. Their statement of intent is clear – to return Rangers to the top. The consortium has promised a £20m injection of funds.

    A major search is ongoing for a man last seen in the most north westerly point of Scotland. Mark Ryle travelled from Edinburgh to Cape Wrath on May 9 and was last seen in the area around 10am on May 12. The 54-year-old met various local people while travelling to the area, and the alarm was raised when he failed to return and travel back. Lifeboat and coastguard crews have joined the search for Mark alongside Assynt Mountain Rescue and the Search and Rescue Dog Association.

    Two men who set up a drugs trafficking network worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been jailed for a total of nine years. Jamie Montgomery, 44, and Darrin Campbell, 39, both of Glasgow, orchestrated the sale and supply of large quantities of cocaine and cannabis. The drugs they sold were never recovered, but a conservative estimate placed the value of the cocaine at £350,000 and the cannabis at between £27,000 and £60,000 a month.

    Creatures of the deep have been brought to life in a new exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery. Described as combining legend, folklore and modern-day science Monsters of the Deep features displays from around the world. From a terrifying Feegee mermaid, to the spindly legs of a Japanese spider crab, visitors also will have the chance to come face to face with the skull of a killer whale, the double-tusked skull of a narwhal and the tooth of an extinct megalodon.

It aims to take visitors on an “illuminating journey” through key moments of inspiration and innovation in gardens and garden design, from the 20th century to the present day, and looking to the future of gardens. The exhibition includes examples of “ground-breaking” gardens by visionaries, including Piet Oudolf, Mien Ruys, Derek Jarman, and Eden Project Scotland.
