    PINE GROVE — Five firearms were stolen from a Washington Twp. residence last month, according to state police. Police said the patrol unit at Schuylkill Haven investigated a burglary at a Flying Hill Lane home owned by a 61-year-old man. After investigating, police said, the following guns were found missing: a 9 mm Ruger P89 pistol; two double-barreled shotguns, manufacturers unknown; a .22-caliber revolver, manufacturer unknown; and a Henry Golden Boy lever-action rifle.

    MINERSVILLE — Borough police on Friday executed arrest warrants for 17 people, 16 for drug offenses and one for prostitution, as part of Operation Clean Sweep. Sgt. Jeffrey Bowers said the warrants and arrests were part of a department-wide investigation that began in May dealing with the illegal sale of narcotics in the borough. He said that Port Carbon police assisted. Chief Michael Combs said the investigation was the result of complaints of illegal drug sales, and it grew larger as it went.

    Sep. 20—ASHLAND — A Tuesday night fire destroyed a garage and damaged at least two homes near 16th and Middle streets. The fire was reported around 10:15 p.m., with the garage engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Borough Fire Chief Philip Groody said the garage was a standalone structure with a wooden frame. He added that the two houses, one on the north side of Middle Street and the other at 1606 Walnut St., sustained heat damage to vinyl siding.

    Sep. 19—FRACKVILLE — Butler Twp. police have charged an Ashland man in connection with a fatal crash on Route 61 in March. Chief Christopher Hand charged Wade N. Bucher Jr., 47, of 108 E. Centre St., with one felony count of homicide by vehicle; and one misdemeanor count each of involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
