Senator Richard Blumenthal is calling for a federal probe following the recent listeria outbreak in Boar's Head meat products, stemming from a plant in Virginia. The outbreak is responsible for nine deaths and more than 50 hospitalizations nationwide. "The outbreak of listeria in Boar's Head meat products should have been caught, could have been stopped by the United States Department of Agriculture,” said Blumenthal.

Officers say the Stamford man was reported missing late Monday night. He was last seen working in New Canaan at a house under construction. Just after midnight Tuesday, Stamford and New Canaan police found him in a wooded area. He was pronounced dead by a paramedic on scene.

A Bridgeport man who was shot on Iranistan Avenue last week died on Wednesday, police say. Police said 26-year-old Jevoun Rodney was shot in the head and succumbed to his injuries. The shooting happened last Wednesday in broad daylight, according to police reports. “The Bridgeport Police Department's thoughts and prayers go out to Jevoun's family and friends,” the department wrote on Facebook. Friends and family held a vigil on Iranistan Avenue on Wednesday to show respect for the Rodney.
State police: Trooper killed in hit-and-run on I-84 in Southington

A state trooper was killed on I-84 near Exit 31 in Southington on Friday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police. Police say Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier, of Troop H-Hartford, was standing outside his cruiser conducting a traffic stop when he was sideswiped by a red pickup truck and killed. They also say the driver fled the scene, but officers were able to later arrest them near Exit 39A after the truck broke down. Their identity and charges will be posted at a later time.

The Bridgeport community is grieving after the death of a 21-year-old beloved Little League coach. The father of Steve Diaz is thanking the Bridgeport baseball community on Friday for what he's calling the incredible outpouring of support following his son's death. "I don't think too many kids would endure what Steve had to endure and not complain. Never complained, and that's the thing that came out during the funeral service; he never complained," he said.
Indeed announces layoffs of 8% of its employees

The worldwide employment company Indeed announced its plans on Monday to lay off 8% of its workforce. The company has headquarters in Stamford and in Austin, Texas. There is no word yet on how many employees will be laid off at each location. CEO Chris Hyams shared a message that went out to all of the company's global workers. He said about 1,000 people are losing their jobs companywide:"While the reductions touch many groups and regions, they are not across the board like last year.

Gov. Ned Lamont has taken responsibility for the removal of trees from an environmentally protected area near his home in Greenwich. The issue was addressed in a Special Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency meeting on Monday, but the panel deferred action so both sides could find a path forward. Officials said the removal could lead to fines for Lamont, his neighbors and the local neighborhood Association, which together, according to public records, own much of the property in question.
