Senator Richard Blumenthal is calling for a federal probe following the recent listeria outbreak in Boar's Head meat products, stemming from a plant in Virginia. The outbreak is responsible for nine deaths and more than 50 hospitalizations nationwide. "The outbreak of listeria in Boar's Head meat products should have been caught, could have been stopped by the United States Department of Agriculture,” said Blumenthal.

Elected officials announced the continuation of the Paraeducator Healthcare Subsidy Program on Tuesday morning. The program will devote $10 million to providing financial assistance for paras' health care costs. Paraeducators enrolled in a high deductible health plan with a health savings account employed by a local or regional school district are eligible for a one-time stipend.

State health experts say MPox, formerly known as monkeypox, is popping up again. They say 11 cases have been reported this year in Connecticut, compared to last year when there were only four. In 2022, there was an outbreak with 145 cases. The state’s public health department says in order for at-risk people to be fully protected against the disease, one dose of the vaccine is not enough. It recommends getting two doses.

Police say a Bridgeport man is in critical condition after being shot in the head. The shooting happened 11:30 p.m. Monday at the PT Barnum Housing Complex near Building 20. Footage captured shows a large crime scene, with a big crowd and evidence scattered in the street. Investigators say they found the 25-year-old man shot in the head near the building. The shooting comes after an announcement by the U.S. Surgeon General declaring gun violence a public health crisis for the first time.

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that prosecutors can use extra video evidence in the case against Dennis Bradley. It’s a legal defeat for the former Bridgeport state senator who is accused of conspiracy and wire fraud charges. Bradley is accused of collecting donations at a campaign launch party in 2018. His case has been on hold for two years while the appeals court decided if prosecutors could use 28 minutes of video footage obtained just days before the trial.
