James Gray, co-founder of Farrand Hall, alleges homophobia is “100%” a factor in Colon Township’s ongoing conflict with the private event property. Gray, a former write-in township trustee candidate, previously said he would “never, ever want to say” homophobia was a factor. A permitting situation that has gone on for the last nine months has changed the 51-year-old’s mind. “People think that they can intimidate people,” Gray said Tuesday.

This week is a great time to come downtown and experience a Sturgis Christmas, Ryan Conrod said. Conrod, an event coordinator with the Sturgis Downtown Development Authority, shared information about this year’s “Dashing Through Downtown.” Activities funded by the DDA, City of Sturgis, and participating businesses are planned for the afternoons and evenings of Thursday, December 5-Friday, December 6, with an afternoon finale Saturday, December 7.

A 29-year-old Vicksburg man is expected to be arraigned Tuesday after the motor vehicle he was driving fatally struck a 10-year-old child in Sherman Township. The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said deputies with the road patrol responded Monday to the area of Banker and Balk Road in Sherman Township. They were responding to a report that the motor vehicle had struck multiple school-aged children.
