    FLORENCE — The S.C. Supreme Court issued a public reprimand May 21 for Florence attorney Barry Scott Suggs in response to two disciplinary complaints. One complaint involves Suggs’ criminal arrest on allegations he fired a gun from the front porch of his law office, according to the reprimand. In the other complaint, Suggs failed to submit an appeal for a client found guilty of criminal charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

    FLORENCE - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged two Florence County women in connection with the death of a child. Traquianna Holloway-Wilson, 29, was charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk, according to a release from SLED. Ky'Ledja Holloway, 20, was charged inflicting great bodily injury upon a child. The two-year-old child died of infection related to severe burns on her legs, according to SLED arrest warrants.

    DARLINGTON — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged City Councilwoman Elaine R. Reed and her son, Lorand Clayton Reed, with assault and battery May 1. Elaine R. Reed, 78, was charged with third degree assault and battery. Lorand Clayton Reed, 54, was charged with second degree assault and battery. According to a SLED arrest warrant, Elaine Reed injured a person Oct. 5, 2024, on Timmonsville Highway in Darlington County.

    DARLINGTON — The Darlington County Board of Education landed on a new superintendent at a special-called meeting April 28. Matthew Ferguson, a deputy superintendent of the S.C. Department of Education, was named the new superintendent of the Darlington County School District.
